Fairmount Line begins operating.

January 31, 1855

(Jan.) Originally the Midland Line of the Norfolk County Railroad, it runs from South Station to Hyde Park. The line is subsequently operated by the New York & New England Railroad, the New England Railroad, and the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad. Although freight services continues, passenger service in 1944, before being resumed in 1979.*
