Sailors’ Home (third) is built.

Built by the Boston Seaman’s Friend Society, it is located on Purchase Street. The large building contains sleeping rooms, dining rooms, a library and smoking rooms. When the Fort Hill area is leveled by the city, the building is demolished and replaced by a new building (fourth) on North Bennet Street in 1872.*
