Massasoit Guards is established.

The military company is formed by John Coburn, Robert Morris, and others after William Cooper Nell and Robert Morris unsuccessfully petition the legislature to integrate the state militia. The state legislature subsequently denies the group’s request for funds to purchase arms and equipment.
