Benjamin Allen is appointed acting mayor of Boston.

When no candidate receives sufficient vote on the next two ballots, Allen, chairman of the Board of Aldermen, performs the duties of mayor from the close of Benjamin Seaver’s term in office until a new mayor takes office in January 1854.*
