Boston Almshouse is built.

[1852-Snow] Architect: Gridley Bryant. It is located on Deer Island. The building includes work rooms, school rooms and a chapel, and separate facilities, one for “paupers’ and one for the “deserving poor.” It becomes the House of Industry in 1854,* which moves to Rainsford Island in 1866.* The building becomes the House of Correction in 1896.*
