Bates Carriage House is built.

Designed in the Greek Revival style and built by John Bates of Mount Vernon Street, it is located at 36R Joy Street. The building is converted into artists’ lofts and a local theater for the Boston Stage society in the early twentieth century. It is subsequently converted to residential use.
