Keying arrives in Boston.

November 18, 1847

The 800-ton junk is moored at the Charles River Bridge. It contains elaborately decorated teakwood salons, cabins and a josshouse containing an 18-handed idol, Chin-Tee. Thousands of visitors pay 25 cents each to tour the vessel and see the visiting “Celestials” (the term used at the time for the Chinese). However, the ship’s visit fails in its mission to rekindle the China Trade in Boston.
