Bigelow, Dr. Henry J. “Ether: Insensibility During Surgical Operations.”

New England Journal of Medicine. In the account of the first successful use of the anesthetic, Bigelow, a colleague of Dr. John Collins Warren, who performed the operation at Massachusetts General Hospital, writes that ether “promises to be one of the important discoveries of the age.”
