Boston Museum (second) opens.

November 2, 1846

[11/6] Architect: Hammatt Billings and Joseph Billings. Also called the New Boston Museum, it is designed in the Italianate style and located at today’s 28 Tremont Street. Operated by Moses Kimball, the theater seats 1,500 and is later described by Justin Winsor as “the most continuously successful theatre that Boston ever possessed.” It closes with a performance of Mrs. Dane’s Defense on June 1, 1903, and the building is torn down a few months later to make way for the Kimball Building in 1904.*
