Adams House Hotel (first) opens.

September 21, 1846

Architect: William Washburn. Built for Laban Adams, it is located on the former site of the Lamb Tavern at today’s 559 Washington Street (then 555 Washington Street). A reasonably-priced hotel that specializes in serving politicians from Western Massachusetts. An annex is built in 1858.* The hotel is replaced by a new building (second) in 1883.*
