Tremont Temple (first) is dedicated.

Originally the First Baptist Free Church and sometimes called the Tremont Temple Baptist Church, it is located in the former Tremont Theatre at 88 Tremont Street. The congregation held its first service on December 30, 1838 in Tremont Hall at 31 Tremont Street, and was reorganized in 1839. The first integrated church in the U.S., it subsequently hosts speakers that include every U.S. president from Lincoln to Hoover, as well as Eugene Debs, Charles Dickens, Frederick Douglass, Edward Everett, William Lloyd Garrison, Rev. Billy Graham, Helen Keller, Rev. Billy Sunday, and Daniel Webster. The building is destroyed by fire on March 30, 1852, replaced by new building (second) in 1853,* another (third) in 1880,* and the current building (fourth) in 1896.*
