Clough (George) is born in Blue Hill, Maine.

George Clough worked first with his father, a draftsman, in a shipyard. He arrives in Boston in 1863, works initially for architect George Snell, then opens his own firm in 1869. He becomes the first Boston city architect in 1874,* and goes on to design some 25 schools and other municipal buildings. Clough dies in Brookline on December 29, 1910.
