Railroad service to Albany begins.
December 28, 1841
The first round trip between the two cities is celebrated at the United States Hotel. The trip made possible when the tracks of the Boston & Worcester Railroad are connected to those of the Western Railroad on December 9, 1941. Officials from both cities take part at the gala, with Mayor Jonathan Chapman offering a toast to “Albany and Boston – connected together by a rail road, which bring the two cities in such proximity, that Albany supplies Boston with bread, and Boston, Albany with candles, both made and delivered on the same day.”
