Sewall (Lucy) is born in Roxbury.

The daughter of lawyer Samuel and Louisa (Winslow) Sewall, Lucy Sewall graduates from the New England Medical College, studies in Europe, and returns to Boston to become a resident physician at the New England Hospital for women and Children in 1863, and then its director in 1869. She dies in Boston on February 13, 1890.
