Aldrich (Thomas Bailey) is born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Thomas Bailey Aldrich leaves school at 13 to work as a clerk in New York City, then begins a career as a writer and journalist. He moves to Boston in 1865 to become editor of Every Saturday, living initially at 84 Pinckney Street, where he writes “Story of a Bad Boy.” He becomes editor of The Atlantic Monthly in 1881. Aldrich dies in Boston on March 19, 1907.
