East Boston Ferry (second) begins operating.

Subsequently called the South Ferry, it runs initially from Lewis Wharf to a spot near the Maverick House Hotel. It uses the Eastern Railroad Company’s wharfs in Boston and East Boston from 1846 to 1854. Service ends on December, 31, 1952.
