Cobb (Samuel) is born in Taunton.

Samuel Cobb arrives in Boston in approximately 1840 and works initially as a clerk before becoming a shipping merchant. He lives at 120 Highland Street. Cobb serves on the Board of Aldermen in Roxbury and then Boston, then as mayor (1874-76). Cobb dies on February 18, 1891.
