Morgan (Henry) is born in Newtown, Connecticut.
March 7, 1825
Henry Morgan becomes an itinerant preacher, who calls himself “The Poor Man’s Preacher.” He arrives in Boston in 1858 and becomes pastor of the newly-established Union Mission Society, then the First Independent Methodist Church in 1868.* An ardent anti-Catholic, Morgan declares that in Boston the “aristocracy bows to the Roman yoke and Beacon Hill kisses the Pope’s toe. Tools of the Catholic Church finger the taxes, manage the appropriations, deliver the votes and sell to the rich corporations all the privileges they want.” Morgan dies in March 1884, and is buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
