Boston Gas Company is established.

Originally the Boston Gas Light Company, it is the second chartered gas company in a major U.S. city (after one in Baltimore in 1817). The company merges with several competitors to become the Boston Consolidated Gas Company in 1905, becomes Boston Gas Company in 1955, and is known as Keyspan today.
