Two dams are built across the Charles River Basin.

Built by the Roxbury Mill Dam Corporation, they are located along today’s Hemenway Street and Massachusetts Avenue (then Gravelly Point) and today’s Kenmore Square (then Sewall’s Point). A few mills are built on the Gravelly Point Dam and operate until the late 1850s.
