Cathedral Church of St. Paul is dedicated.
June 30, 1820
Architect: Alexander Parris. Originally St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, it is designed in the Greek Revival style with columns and capitals by Solomon Willard and located at today’s 138 Tremont Street. The congregation was established in 1818. Samuel Jarvis is the first rector. The church is named Boston’s Episcopal cathedral in October 1912 and consecrated October 7, 1918. The chancel is remodeled by Ralph Adams Cram between 1913 and 1927. A bright blue, pressed aluminum sculpture, Ship of Pearl, by Donald Lipski, is installed in the pediment and dedicated on May 8, 2013.
