Purple Windows are installed in homes on Beacon Hill.
1818
(ca.) The window panes were shipped to Boston from England sometime between 1818 and 1824 to Ephraim Marsh for the King’s Chapel Parish House at 64 Beacon Street. A defect in the glass results in their turning a purplish hue due to a transformation of manganese oxide. Today, only the houses at 64 Beacon Street and those at 39 and 40 Beacon and 29A and 70B Walnut retain windows from that shipment of glass.
