McGinniskin (Barney) is born in County Galway, Ireland,

Barney McGinniskin emigrates to Boston in 1840 and settles in the North End. After working initially as a laborer, he becomes the first Irish-American on the Boston police force in 1851.* McGinniskin dies in March 1868, and is buried in St. Augustine’s Cemetery.
