Hunt (Harriot Kezia) is born in the North End.

November 9, 1805

Harriot Kezia Hunt is educated in private schools and, with her sister, begins to practice medicine in her parents house without benefit of an M.D.. Although accepted at Harvard Medical School in 1850,* she is forced to withdraw her application, but goes on to graduate from the Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania and becomes a well-known advocate for women’s rights and health reform. Hunt dies on January 2, 1875 and is buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery. A statue of Hygeia, the Greek goddess of health, by Edmonia Lewis, is subsequently placed over her grave.
