Monthly Anthology and Boston Review is first published.

November 30, 1803

(Nov.) Also called the Magazine of Polite Literature, it is first published by the Anthology Society from offices at today’s 17 Court Street (then 7 Court Street). The first literary magazine in the U.S., it is also contains sketches and reports of “Philosophy, Religion, History, Arts, and Manners.” Rev. William Emerson is the first editor. The magazine continues to publish until 1811.
