Swan (James and Hepzibah) House is built.
1796
Architect: Charles Bulfinch. Called the “Round House,” it is located on the former estate of Loyalist Nathaniel Hatch near today’s 621 Dudley Street. The summer home of Col. James and Hepzibah Swan, it is one of the handsomest houses of its time, includes a two-story, circular drawing room with a domed ceiling, and is subsequently filled with French furniture and decor. Visitors include Henry Knox and the Marquis de Lafayette, who visits on his way to Quincy to see John Adams in June 1825. The house is demolished in 1891. A playground is built on the site in 1945.*
