Medium, or Happy Tea Party premieres in Boston.

Written by Judith Sargent Murray, but presented as the work of a “Citizen of the United States,” it is performed at the Federal Street Theatre. The first professional play by an American produced in the U.S., it is not favorably reviewed and, some suggest – incorrectly – that it was written not by Sargent, but by her husband, Universalist minister John Murray.
