Boston Chamber of Commerce (first) is established.

Originally a grain exchange, it meets in the rotunda of Quincy Market. Thomas Russell is the first president. It operates for several years and then ceases. A new chamber (second) is established in 1836. William Sturgis is the first president. The organization is dissolved in 1843 and reestablished (third) in 1885. Formed by a merger of the Boston Commercial Exchange and the Boston Produce Exchange, it meets in the Grain Exchange Building beginning in 1892. A new organization (fourth) is established in 1909,* and the current version (fifth) in 1952.*
