Lawrence (Abbott) is born in Groton.

Abbott Lawrence comes to Boston in 1808 to join his brother Lawrence, boarding with a Mrs. Dexter on Portland Street. The two form A & A Lawrence Company in 1814 and go on to become wealthy importers and textile merchants after founding the industrial city named for them in 1847. Abbott lives at 8 Park Street beginning in 1836. He serves in the U.S. House of Representatives (1835-37, 1839-40) and as Minister to England (1849-52), and founds the Lawrence Scientific School at Harvard University in 1847. He dies in Boston on August 18, 1855.
