Perkins (J. & T.H.) & Company is established.
September 29, 1792
Founded James and Thomas Handasyd Perkins, its offices are located at 64 Long Wharf. This company is formed to trade furs, other goods, and eventually opium for tea, porcelain and other goods in China and is said to control half of all trade with Canton by 1830. The company moves to Foster’s Wharf a few years later and to 52 Central Wharf by 1820. It branches into various other entities with other family members involved and is finally dissolved in 1838.
