Charles Bulfinch is first elected a Selectman.

Bulfinch is reelected annually for the next four years, resigns to concentrate on construction of the State House in 1795, then elected again in 1799. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Selectmen until resigning when he is appointed architect for the Capitol in Washington, D.C. in 1817.*
