Boston Lock and Safe Company is established.

[1796] Founded by James and Thomas Winship, it is located initially on North Street. Originally a lock company, it adds safes, clock parts and leather goods over the years. The company is subsequently purchased by Vargel Stoia, an Albanian immigrant, who numbers among his customers Harry Houdini. His family continues to operate the company which is currently located at 30 Lincoln Street.
