Slave trade is prohibited in Massachusetts.

The legislature takes the action after an incident in which six freed blacks were kidnapped and sent to Martinique. Gov. John Hancock subsequently helps secure the release of the enslaved persons. The importation of enslaved persons is banned in the U.S. in 1808.
