U.S. Constitution Bill of Rights proposal is adopted.

The convention approves the measure at the Long Lane Meeting House at today’s 145 Franklin Street. John Hancock, who had been carried into that hall on a litter because of his claim to be suffering from gout, proposes adoption of the nine amendments designed to “more effectively guard against an undue administration of the federal government,” but only after he is promised the support of James Bowdoin’s allies in the next gubernatorial election.
