The son of Gen. Henry and Dorcas (Osborne) Dearborn, Henry Dearborn graduates from William & Mary College, studies law, practices initially in Maine, and marries Hannah Swett in 1807. After moving to Boston, he soon succeeds his father as Collector of the Port of Boston (1813-1830). Appointed brigadier-general of the Massachusetts militia in 1814 and adjutant general in 1835, he serves in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate (1830-31), and U.S. House of Representatives (1832). He is elected the second mayor of Roxbury (1847) and is credited with laying out Forest Hills Cemetery in 1848.* Dearborn dies on July 29, 1851 and is buried two days later in Forest Hills Cemetery.*
