Massachusetts Superior Court convenes.
November 8, 1768
The court convenes in the Old State House under the watchful eyes of British troops. As soon as court opens, James Otis moves that the court adjourn to Faneuil Hall, because “the stench occasioned by the troops in the representatives’ chamber might prove infectious; and that it was utterly derogatory to the court to administer justice at the points of bayonets and the mouths of canon.”
