Hannon (John) Mill begins operation.
1765
Founded by the Irish immigrant, it is located in Dorchester Lower Mills. The first commercial chocolate mill in North America, it grinds coca beans imported from the West Indies. The factory is taken over after Hannon’s death in 1780 and combined with the Walter Baker Chocolate Company.
