Bernard (Francis) House is built.

1765

(ca.) (1760) It is located near today’s 217 Pond Street. An enlargement of the John Bowles House, the three-story mansion on some 60 acres of land is built for the royal governor. Upon his departure from Boston in 1769, it is occupied by Sir William Pepperell. After Pepperell leaves Boston in 1776, it is used as a hospital for Colonial troops. The estate is confiscated by the town and purchased in 1799 by merchant Martin Brimmer, who dies there in 1804. The property is then purchased by Captain John Prince who tears down the house and builds a road through the site that connects Pond Street to Perkins Street in 1809.
