Lawyer training group is established.
January 31, 1765
Founded by Jeremiah Gridley, the purpose of the “law club or sodality” is the study of law and training of lawyers. Sometimes called the “Father of the Boston Bar,” Gridley later advises, “Pursue the study of law, rather than the gain of it. Pursue the gain of it enough to keep out of the briers; but give your main attention to the study of it.” Those in the club include John Adams, Joseph Dudley and Samuel Fitch.
