Welles Mansion is built.

(ca.) Designed in the Georgian style, it is located near today’s 690 Washington Street. Subsequent occupants include Gen. Henry Knox in 1785 and Daniel Webster in 1822. Ownership of the property passes into the hands of George Derby Welles in 1870 and the house is demolished and the property developed as the site of Henry Pierce School in 1891.*
