Faneuil (Benjamin) Mansion is built.

1760

(ca.) Built for the older brother of Peter Faneuil, it is located on 70 acres of land near today’s Faneuil Street. Originally left out of his uncle’s will when he chose to marry, Benjamin subsequently inherited the fortune improved upon by his brother at his death in 1764, providing him with the funds to buy the estate and build the home. Gen. George Washington is a subsequent visitor. The house is purchased by Samuel Bigelow in 1839, and destroyed by fire in 1919. Only the nearby gatekeeper’s house remains today.
