General Court passes a law that prohibits “all riotous, tumultuous and disorderly assemblies.” The legislation comes after what is described as “many and great Disorders . . . committed by tumultuous Companies of men, children and negroes, carrying about with them Pageants, or other Shows through the streets and Lanes of the Town of Boston . . .”
