Linden Hall is built.

1755

Designed in the Georgian style and built by John Gould for his daughter and his son-in-law, the Rev. John Troutbeck, it is located initially near today’s 18 Pond Street on grounds that extend to Jamaica Pond. When the couple flee Boston with other Loyalists in 1776, it becomes the home of Sir William Pepperell, and is then used as a camp hospital. The building is subsequently enlarged and becomes C.W. Greene’s Academy (whose students include John Lothrop Motley and two of Margaret Fuller’s brothers), and then one of Papanti’s dance studios. The building is subsequently moved to its current location at 26 Grovenor Road and returned to residential use.
