Smallpox epidemic strikes Boston.

(Jan.) The longest smallpox epidemic to strike Boston to date, it lasts from until August. According to a report by the selectmen, 539 of the 5,545 victims not inoculated die (514 of the 5,544), but only 30 of the 2,124 inoculated victims die (31 of 2,109).
