Murray (Judith Sargent) is born in Gloucester.

Judith Sargent Murray comes to Boston in 1793 when her second husband, Rev. John Murray, becomes pastor of the first Universalist Church. The couple live at 77 Franklin Street (then 5 Franklin Place) from 1794 to 1819. Murray had begun writing essays in verse in 1770, and goes on to become a playwright, whose plays are performed at the Federal Street Theatre, and a women’s rights advocate. She dies in Natchez, Mississippi, on July 6, 1820.
