Second Baptist Church in Boston (first) is dedicated.
March 15, 1746
Originally the Baldwin Place Baptist Church, it is located on Baldwin Place. The congregation was established by members of the First Baptist Church dissatisfied with the preaching of its then minister Jeremiah Condy on October 3, 1742. The building is enlarged in 1788 and 1797. The congregation moves to a new church building (second) in the South End in 1811.* The original building becomes the Baldwin Place Home for Little Wanderers (later the New England Home for Little Wanderers) in 1865,* then Temple Beth Israel in 1889. The building is later demolished.
