Later called “the best engraver . . . in the colonies” by Isaiah Thomas, founder of the American Antiquarian Society, Turner describes himself as a “Silversmith & Engraver . . . after the best and neatest manner, and at most Reasonable Rates.” Among Turner’s competitors are Nathaniel Hurd, Thomas Johnston, and Paul Revere.
