After encountering the controversial Methodist minister, Rev. George Chauncy of the First Church in Boston declares, “Mr. Whitefield, I am sorry to see you come back again!” Whitefield replies, “So is the devil.” Whitefield returns to Boston in 1754,* 1764, and 1770.*
