Boston Marine Society is established.

Originally the Fellowship Club, it adopts its current name in 1809. The oldest marine society in America and the oldest association of ship captains in the world, it is incorporated in 1754. The organization is given the authority to appoint the Boston Pilot Commissioners, who appoint Boston harbor pilots in 1791. It establishes the Massachusetts Nautical Training School in 1891, utilizing the training ships Enterprise (1892-1909) and Nantucket (1909-1917, 1921-1940). It reaches its peak membership of 475 in 1893. The organization continues today and is currently located in Building 32 on First Avenue in the Charlestown Navy Yard.
