Annie “Goody” Glover is hanged for witchcraft.
November 16, 1688
An Irish immigrant, she is hanged on Boston Common. The fourth and last person to be executed for witchcraft in Boston, Glover was accused by the children of John Goodwin after she had spoken harshly to them in Gaelic, whereupon they supposedly began barking like dogs, and was convicted, partly because she could not the “Lord’s Prayer” in English (she knew it only in Latin). Her last words are reputed to be, “I die a Catholic.” A plaque to Glover is subsequently installed at Our Lady of Victories Church.
